Paesaggi sonori urbani
About the project:
Paesaggi sonori urban – sound and place converge in the urban soundscape.
This project emerged from the collaboration of two like-minded sound artists who set out to merge parallel listening experiences from two distant cities—Ulm in Germany and La Spezia in Italy—into a single work.
The artists recorded sound walks along mirrored routes: from the railway station to the cathedral, and from the old town to the waterfront—along the Danube in Ulm and the Gulf of La Spezia. Although the journeys shared the same points of departure and arrival, each path remained unknown to the other.
The environmental recordings were then interwoven, fusing the soundscapes of both cities into unified tracks. Using identical binaural equipment, the field recordings preserve a vivid, spatial listening experience, while electronic sounds created individually by each artist act as a counterpoint to the walking journeys.
The project aims to bring together parallel urban worlds, intertwining natural and artificial sounds across distance. By layering these sonic narratives, it creates a situationist drift—where different geographies speak simultaneously of analogous itineraries. The result is a free-form flânerie, a shared exploration of the inner soundscapes of two cities.
