Joel Penoan Collective

The Joel Penoan Collective is a five-piece German-Austrian band from Baden-Württemberg.

In this newly founded line-up, the sounds of traditional and electronic instruments meet in experimental textures and improvisational freedom, creating a very unique sound world. Elisabeth Haselberger’s expressive versatility with recorders and nuanced electronics is combined with double bass and experimental electronics by Andreas Usenbenz, with Josef Häusel’s guitar feedback, Peter Schubert’s modular system and objects, as well as with Norman Müller’s electro-acoustic accents, oscillators and percussion. The focus is on reacting, the shared experience of sonic gestures against the individual background of each musician, without a predetermined structure, guided by a deep connection through intensive listening.

The collective’s first live performance has been also their tape release concert. The music on the limited edition cassettes was created during a three-day recording session at the Soundindex Studio in Meersburg and has been released on the Klanggold label in Ulm.

Listeners can expect an intense acoustic adventure, instrumental virtuosity combined with a radical openness for the moment in the border area between composition and improvisation.
